Following Raila’s meeting with President William Ruto to witness the signing of the IEBC Bill, Azimio la Umoja Coalition Principal Kalonzo Musyoka has alleged that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga fell victim to cyberbullying, forcing him to change his phone number.
Speaking at the Pan African Youth Convention on Thursday, Musyoka revealed the aftermath of Odinga’s publicized meeting with the President. “I spoke to my big brother Hon. Raila Odinga on my way here. People went to visit him yesterday, and he had to change his telephone number,” Musyoka stated. “The Gen Z put his number everywhere. Maybe it’s a measure of cyberbullying. Please be kind to Baba.”
The Wiper party leader expressed concern about the incident, questioning, “If they can do that to Raila Odinga, imagine who else in this country?”
Despite this criticism of youth behavior, Musyoka praised Kenyan youth for their recent activism, particularly the Generation Z-led protests. He argued that these demonstrations achieved social cohesion that major political parties and civil organizations had long failed to implement.
“We need to clap for Gen Zs. Imagine they have taken over what the NCIC and political parties failed to do,” Musyoka remarked. He encouraged African youth across the continent to emulate Kenyan Gen Z by claiming their constitutional rights.
However, Musyoka also criticized President Ruto’s administration for allegedly using excessive force during recent demonstrations, emphasizing that peaceful protest is a constitutional right for all Kenyans.
The former Vice President’s comments highlight the complex dynamics between generations in Kenyan politics and the growing influence of youth activism in shaping national discourse, while also shedding light on the unexpected consequences of high-profile political meetings.
